Russell Brand and Jonathon Ross
This is absolutely ridiculous.
I actually really just don’t understand how or why there is such a furore over two comedians leaving some answer phone messages that are rude.
I understand that some people might find what they said offensive and wrong, but they’re both very crude all the time. And the fact that Andrew Sachs is a ‘comedy legend’ should be irrelevant. He might have been in the best sitcom ever (I think that may be true), but that was about 30 years ago, and he’s hardly done any highly respected work since. And anyway, even if it was an utter ‘national treasure’ that they ‘abused’, so what? The point about Sachs age making him an ‘unfair victim’ is just silly. If he was a small child, I’d totally understand.
I am heartily annoyed about this. I did really like listening to Russell Brand’s podcast. The people that are apparently morally outraged by these events should not be expressing this just because they don’t like the two comedians and the ‘filth’ that they purvey. I might be wrong about this, but I think there were something like 2 complaints about the show before it hit the news. Then there were something like 10,000 complaints. This doesn’t really make sense in my book. And my book is pretty sensible. If there are 9,998 people complaining well after the original broadcast, those people must have either downloaded the podcast, thus knowing full well the kind of rude comedy they were in for, or just read/watched/heard about via a newspaper/news programme/gossiper. Those people would never have heard about it if it hadn’t been for the bizarre headline reporting in the Mail on Sunday, or the subsequent BBC news headlines. In other words, this insane controversy has been created by the media, and those thousands of complaining people should never have heard anything about the radio show, and have just been given a right to complain in moral outrage as a outlet for their prudish entertainment beliefs by the media. It makes the country feel like America to me. ‘Ahh, he said a bad word to someone old!’
Oh and the people saying it was disrespectful to Sachs’ granddaughter should know she was a quarter of burlesque dance group ‘Satanic Sluts Extreme’. Full slutty Guardian details in that link.
Brand did apologise on his next show, which I can’t listen to because of this hoohar, but very badly. ‘I would like to take this opportunity to issue a personal Russell Brand apology to Andrew Sachs, the great comic actor who played Manuel, for a message Jonathan and I left on his answerphone, but it was quite funny.’
I do find that quite amusing, but he is a fool for not properly seriously apologising and trying to save his job. That link has more quotes involving him bringing up that the Mail once (a long time ago) implied that ‘this Hitler might be all right’. Some of it’s pretty funny. But very stupid.
